What to expect

No surprises. Here's how it works, from your first call to your treatment plan

No surprises. Here's how it works, from your first call to your treatment plan.

Step 1 · Screening call

We learn your history

A clinician calls within 24 business hours. Have a list of every medication you've tried for anxiety or mood, the dose, and how long you took it.

Step 2 · Evaluation

A full psychiatric evaluation

We review your symptoms and medical history, and check for things that can cause or worsen anxiety, such as thyroid problems, caffeine, poor sleep, depression or ADHD.

Step 3 · Baseline

Measured, not guessed.

You complete the GAD-7 and PHQ-9, standard anxiety and depression scales, so we can track your progress at every visit.

Step 4 · Your plan

You leave with a clear next step

That may be starting or adjusting medication, a therapy referral, or, if depression is part of the picture and you qualify, TMS or SPRAVATO.

Your Treatment Path

How anxiety care works, step by step.

Step 1 · Standard care

Medication + therapy
Most patients start here. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), often with an SSRI or SNRI, adjusted over 4 to 8 weeks. GAD-7 tracked at every visit.

Step 2 · Adjust

Switch, add or optimize
If the first medication doesn't help enough, we adjust the dose, switch medications, or add one. We're careful with habit-forming medications and focus on treatments that work long-term.

Step 3 · Advanced care

When depression is also present
If you have depression alongside anxiety and two or more antidepressants haven't worked, you may qualify for TMS therapy or SPRAVATO for the depression.

Why it matters where you go

Anxiety care under one psychiatrist, not a patchwork.

One clinic, every option.

Anxiety and depression care, medication management, TMS and SPRAVATO under one roof. If one approach isn't working, you don't start over somewhere new.

Continuity beats convenience.

Dr. Zubairi or your assigned NP follows your care from first evaluation through every treatment change, with the full picture of your history.

Common questions

Anxiety FAQs.

Some anxiety is normal. It's worth getting help when worry, panic or nervousness shows up most days, is hard to control, and gets in the way of work, sleep, relationships or daily life.

For most people, it's cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), an SSRI or SNRI medication, or both. These first-line treatments help many patients, and we'll help you find the right combination.

Most SSRIs and SNRIs take 4 to 8 weeks at an effective dose to reach their full effect. Some people notice small improvements sooner.

Benzodiazepines can be habit-forming, so we use them carefully and usually only short-term, if at all. Our focus is on treatments that work well long-term, like SSRIs, SNRIs and therapy.

Not as a first treatment for anxiety on its own. Both are for adults with depression that has not responded to antidepressants. If you have that kind of depression along with anxiety, treating the depression often helps the anxiety too.

Anxiety is mostly about fear and worry about what might happen. Depression is mostly about low mood, emptiness and loss of interest. Many people have both, which is why a full evaluation matters.

Not always. Many patients contact us directly. Some insurance plans require a referral from your primary care doctor, and we'll confirm what yours needs during your screening call.

We accept most major insurance plans, and coverage is confirmed on your screening call. Most commercial plans cover psychiatric evaluation and medication management for anxiety.

Yes. Many patients keep their own therapist while we manage the psychiatric and medication side of their care. With your permission, we coordinate with them.

We treat anxiety at our Ypsilanti office, easily accessible from Ann Arbor, Plymouth, Canton, Brighton, Chelsea and Jackson, as well as surrounding areas in Washtenaw, Wayne, Livingston and Jackson counties.
